It is well-accepted in the pastoral care profession (and, indeed, the wider health profession) that a carer should take time to nurture him or herself. It is very difficult to care for someone effectively if you are unstable emotionally yourself. To help you to engage in personal reflection and emotional stability, we have placed some hymns and songs on this site. You may like to take time out for yourself to engage in praise, reflection on various aspects of life and feel rejuvenated - replenished before you undertake more caring activities. We hope you find the music uplifting and refreshing.
Choral performances are by the Adelphian Singers - Christadelphians living in SouthEast Queensland. The organ accompaniment is that of the Brisbane City Hall pipe organ. Hymns without singing feature the pipe organ of the Royal Albert Hall, London.

Hymn 234 - And this is what the life of a follower of
Jesus is about ... He is our 'living' Head. He is always available
for help and guidance. This hymn refers to the bread and wine as
symbols of the saving work of our Lord Jesus.
Hymn 31 - This is a wonderful assurance that the Lord will be with us to assist us when we need help! (38)
Hymn 289 - Many of the words in this hymn come from the prophet Isaiah. It speaks of the promised time of a life without problems in God's Kingdom... the blind shall see, the deaf shall hear and sorrow and sighing shall flee away. (48)
Hymn 163
- Given the way our Lord Jesus consecrated himself to do his
Father's will, it is most appropriate for us, as Jesus' followers,
to consecrate ourselves in his service.
Hymn 135
- One of the most powerful parts of this hymn is in the last
verse where we plead for God to speak not only through the
earthquake, wind and fire but through the small voice of calm. The
words are set to the tune Repton.
Hymn 116
- An all-time favourite hymn, this provides us with an
opportunity to praise God for the many blessings He gives us.
(81)
Hymn 305 -
This is an exciting hymn that draws attention to the wonderful time
of righteousness on earth when Jesus returns!
Hymn 100
- This is another hymn in which we praise God for His
greatness, specifically in relation to His creation - the earth, and
His goodness in providing for Jesus to reign on the earth. The words
and music were composed by Philip Mundey, the musical editor of the
Hymn book.
Hymn 57 - This hymn is based on Psalm 117. It speaks of the wish that all nations will recognise the greatness of God - for His merciful kindness and His love toward us.
Hymn 330 - I heard the voice of Jesus say, "Come unto me and rest
There is no doubt that complete trust in Jesus can assist us in our
daily life and provide rest for us.
Hymn 373 - And the peace of God that passeth all understanding - Hymn 373
This quotation from Philippians 4:6 tells of
God's peace that can help us throughout our lives. The hymn was
composed by a Christadelphian - Michael Perryman.
Hymn 150 - Lord, impart to us Thy wisdom (Cwm Rhondda) Hymn 150
This is one of the world's favourite
hymn tunes. The words in this performance were written by Robert
Tarrant and finish with the assurance that those selected by God
will for ever sing hymns in His Kingdom.
(This arrangement is for orchestra, organ and chorus.)
Hymn 218 - Loving Shepherd of thy sheep.
A beautiful hymn speaking of the way our Lord Jesus, as the Good Shepherd, keeps his lambs, us, in safety.
Hymn 227 - Bread of the world in mercy broken
Remembering the sacrifice of our Lord Jesus through the sharing of bread and wine is an important element in the life of a believer.
Hymn 290 - All hail the power of Jesus' name
This hymn (to the tune 'Diadem') is a wonderful reminder of the great hope that God has promised - the time that Jesus, having overcome sin and later ascended to heaven, will return and be crowned Lord of all!
Hymn 372 - Who is on the Lord's side?
This hymn encourages us to believe that though our conflicts may be fierce, God will be on our side!
Hymn 232 - A beautiful hymn (to the tune Hereford) that gently emphasises the wonderful way Jesus helps make our moments calm and bright.
Hymn 383 - This hymn speaks of the great hope we have of the coming of Jesus. It is so appropriate for our current days - the last two lines are: "Shadows of dread brood over every nation , Dark is the night but the vision is clear."
Hymn 388 - "We shall be like him" - This hymn speaks of the time of the resurrection when those who have died in Christ will be raised and "we shall be like him".
This piece was composed for the Christadelphian Conference (Brisbane) in 2010. The music was composed by Judy Collins and the words by Peter Collins. The theme of the Conference was "Many members, one hope". The words express the hope of the return of our Lord Jesus and that members of the body of Christ should stand as one until the Kingdom of God is established on earth. The choral direction of the Adelphian Singers for this recording was by Judy Collins who also played the piano. Graphics were created by Robyn Anderson. A copy of the words and music can be found in the Orange Worship Book www.theworshipbook.com (88).
His mercy endures forever
This song was created by Stuart Gilmore, Nata
Lawrie and Naomi Dennes and it is based on Psalm 118 where the
psalmist was reminding himself and others of the great love of God.
It is Song 69 in the Worship Book (Purple).
Look up, lift up and live!
This song was composed by Anne Twine (words) and Judy Collins
(music) for performance by Queensland attendees at the planned 2020
Christadelphian Family Conference in
Adelaide.
Lullaby
This beautiful little lullaby was composed by Rachel Hocking and
reminds us of the simplicity yet the importance of Jesus' birth. It
is sung by Hannah Pogson.
Hope and faith
Hope and faith are vital elements in a life
serving God.
Hymn 83 - Glory and blessing be ever ascribed to Thee A grand hymn with the Doxology tune fitting for such majestic words of praise. The final "Hallelujah! Yea, Amen" is matched well by the full sound of the Royal Albert Hall organ
Hymn 197 - All glory, laud and honour This hymn, St Theodulph, is well-known because of its harmonisation by J.S.Bach. It speaks of the many reasons why we should praise our Heavenly Father.
Hymn 263 - Come, Lord, and tarry not We all long for a peaceful world. Our Lord Jesus Christ, when he returns to the earth as promised, will begin his reign of everlasting peace.
Hymn 136 - Father, hear the prayer we offer This hymn is well-placed in the "God: prayer and confidence" section of the Christadelphian Hymn Book. It covers many aspects of our life and especially in the 4th verse where we pray for God's guidance in hours of weakness. The tune, Sussex, was arranged by Ralph Vaughan Williams.
Hymn 137 - Father, I ask that all my life ... This is a heartfelt prayer to our Father to ask that, no matter what the circumstances, He will guide us at all times in the direction we should go.
Hymn 139 - God be in my head A most beautiful, reflective hymn that makes the personal prayer that we ask for God's presence in us all the time.
Hymn 14 - God is my strong salvation. The words of this hymn (Psalm 27) remind us of the strength we can have in the Lord and that ultimately, this will give us peace.
Hymn 94 - Immortal, invisible God only wise A well-known hymn that praises God in all His fullness.
Hymn 261 - Now let our humble faith behold This hymn is very suited to singing at a memorial meeting. It reminds us of the priestly role of our Lord Jesus - constantly caring for us and providing sympathetic love.
Hymn 59 - O how love I Thy law And the words continue "... it is my study all the day". There is no doubt that keeping God's word before us will make us wiser and will help keep us in God's way. The Hymn words are taken from Psalm 119.
Hymn 75 - O praise ye the Lord! Laudate Dominum - the opening words of Psalm 150 - "O Praise ye the Lord" The tune is one of the many marvellous melodies composed by Hubert Parry. The hymn concludes with the words - "For grace of salvation, O praise ye the Lord!" (And, for the pipe organ enthusiasts, the Ophicleides pedal stop has been added for these two lines.) We have indeed reason to praise God for this wonderful assurance!
Hymn 7 - The Lord will be a refuge. It was the Psalmist King David (Psalm 9) who wrote these words. He was an 'expert' in being oppressed, yet, at the same time, he knew so well how God cared for him and looked after him.
Hymn 110 - An all time favourite hymn reminding us of God's greatness and power through such things as 'rolling thunder', yet He can be 'seen' in the birds singing sweetly in the trees, and in the gentle breezes.
